In her previous assignment, Ms. Busquets served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of Salmedix, Inc., a San Diego based drug development company. At Salmedix, she was responsible for all aspects of administration including finance, accounting, human resources, information technology and facilities. She, along with the executive team, was responsible for all corporate strategy, business planning, obtaining funding and implementation of the plans. She successfully assisted the CEO in raising $82.6 million in less than four years, filed an S-1 registration statement with the SEC to go public and ultimately sold the company to Cephalon, Inc. for $160 million in cash and an additional $40 million in future milestones.
Prior to joining Salmedix, she managed Biotechnology Management Consultants and co-founded and served as President of GeneTex, Inc. She also served as President of NCE Pharmaceuticals. Both companies are San Antonio-based biotechnology firms. Earlier she served as the Chief Operating Officer at the CTRC Research Foundation, a subsidiary of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio where she was instrumental in incubating and spinning out Ilex Oncology, who was recently acquired by Genzyme for $1 billion. Earlier in her career, Ms. Busquets served as Director of Finance and Administration, Corvas International, Inc. Ms. Busquets holds a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Simmons College Graduate School of Management.
Ms. Busquets serves on several boards, including NCE Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Planned Parenthood of San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties, and Project Wildlife. In the past she served as Chairman of the Board of VNA and Hospice of South Texas and as President of the KLRN (local PBS station) Community Advisory Board, in addition to the board of GeneTex, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas.
